New England at Bar Harbor
Bar Harbor is a wonderful family destination and is a great first stop when touring New England. This little island was long a playground in this area and offers you all the amenities to do so as well during your travels in the USA.

First stop should be the museums, where you learn everything about Bar Harbor, from its start as a Native American settlement to its “Gilded Age,” to how the ecosystems affect everything which is why the Acadia National Park is a must-see.

If you like going off on your own, then Bar Harbor is the place to do it. You could hire a bike and explore the lakes and mountains on about fifty five miles of trail that go through Acadia National Park. Take a canoe or kayak and discover little-known parts of the coastline as you paddle along. You could also take a climbing lesson if you prefer a vertical exploration!

Or, you could hop on a bus or trolley tour and go around the city itself. If you prefer your own two feet, walking tours through the downtown area are popular and you learn bits of local history as well. There are also tours taken out on the water, while you search for the local wildlife as well as tales of the former residents.

If you like the sea, you could go whale watching and spot one of these magnificent creatures as it breaks water for air. Maine was long a whaling area but it stands testament to nature that these previously hunted animals are now alive and thriving here.

After you've done your exploring, it would be time to relax and maybe take in some shopping where you'll find pretty souvenirs to take home. Why not take in a movie as well, a different experience in a restored Art Deco Theater. After dinner, spend the rest of the night in the bars which host various bands and musical artists to end your vacation in style.
